After the murder, the two fled the scene. 48 hours later, they were captured at their home in the village of Beit Kahil, about ten kilometers south of the scene of the attack. During their interrogation, they confessed to committing the murder.
The military court sentenced him to life imprisonment plus 40 years for his part in the murder and a series of other security offenses.
He is the brother of Ahmed Asafra, the terror cell commander.
He was released on October 13, 2025, after 6 years in prison, as part of the deal to free the living hostages from the Gaza Strip.
