Muhammad Odeh

Mohammed Odeh was the commander of Hamas’s military wing in the Gaza Strip, the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, and a member of the organization’s senior military council. He was born in the Jabalia refugee camp in the northern Gaza Strip and was a veteran operative of Hamas’s military wing. From 2017 to 2019, he served as commander of the Northern Gaza Brigade. During the October 7 attack, he served as head of the organization’s intelligence staff and was part of the small forum of senior Hamas figures responsible for planning and carrying out the attack. In 2024, it was reported that he was serving in practice as commander of the Northern Gaza Brigade, following the killing of Ahmed Ghandour in November 2023. In May 2026, it was reported that he had been appointed commander-in-chief of Hamas’s military wing in the Gaza Strip, following the killing of Izz al-Din al-Haddad.
