Together with his accomplices, he entered Israel illegally in May 2009 with the aim of committing a robbery in the Ashdod area.
On the evening of May 10, they got into Rabinovich's taxi. During the trip, they decided to rob him, took him to a side road near Gan Yavne, attacked him and stole his money. During the attack, a decision was made to murder Rabinovich simply because he was Jewish.
He participated in the assault and murder, which included strangling him, tying his hands and feet and dragging him into the trunk of the taxi.
They abandoned his body in an orchard near Gan Yavne and covered it with branches and cardboard. During his interrogation, he admitted his involvement and recreated the act.
He was released on October 13, 2025, after 16 years in prison, as part of the deal to free the living hostages from the Gaza Strip.
According to the terms of the deal, he was permanently expelled from the West Bank.
