Directly responsible for the deaths of dozens of Israelis, having directed and participated in several deadly suicide bombings, including:
● The March 4, 2001, suicide bombing in Netanya, where a suicide bomber exploded near a bus on Herzl Street, killing 3 civilians and injuring 55.
● The May 18, 2001, suicide bombing at the Sharon Mall in Netanya, where 5 civilians were killed and 74 were injured.
● The March 27, 2002, suicide bombing by a suicide bomber in the dining room of the Park Hotel in Netanya on Passover evening, which killed 29 civilians and injured 64.
He planned and executed the attack. During his investigation by the Shin Bet, he admitted that his original plan was to carry out a double suicide bombing.
He also admitted that he procured the explosive belts for the attack and decided on the method of entering the attack under the guise of a vehicle with yellow license plates and using a forged Israeli ID card.
Before the attack, Abbas and other military operatives from the infrastructure prepared the suicide bomber for the operation, and he dressed the bomber in the explosive belt and explained how to operate it.
He wrote the bomber’s will, which stated that he was carrying out the attack in the name of the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, and also equipped the bomber with an Israeli woman’s ID card.
