A Shia Iraqi armed militia deployed in Syria by Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps. The brigade was formed in June 2013 to support another Iraqi Shia brigade, the Abu Fadl al-Abbas Brigade, in defending the holy Shia shrine complex of Sayyida Zaynab, south of Damascus. Later, it was deployed by Iran and the Syrian Army in other combat areas. Since its inception, it has been led by Abu Shahd al-Jabouri and is mainly composed of Iraqi activists from Iranian-backed militias. Most of its commanders were recruited from the Abu Fadl al-Abbas Brigade.
