Salama Mari

Salameh Aziz Muhammad Mar’i is a senior member of Hamas’s command in Turkey. He was involved in a shooting attack in the Burqin area in 1993. He was captured by Israeli security forces, and the principal offenses of which he was convicted were: murder through hostile acts; providing services to an unlawful organization; attempted murder through hostile acts; and membership in an unrecognized organization. He was sentenced to life imprisonment. In 2011, after serving 18 years in an Israeli prison, he was released as part of the Gilad Shalit prisoner exchange and deported to Turkey, where he recruits operatives and directs terrorist activity. He is considered a senior aide to Zaher Jabarin, one of the leaders of Hamas’s military wing abroad.
