Arrested on June 3, 2002, and convicted of causing death intentionally; performing service; attempted murder; conspiracy to cause death intentionally Released in 2011 as part of the Shalit deal. He was deported to the Gaza Strip after his release and became one of Hamas’s prominent commentators on Israeli affairs, heading the ‘Al-Hudhud’ network, which translates content from the Hebrew media into Arabic and analyzes internal Israeli developments. Arrested again at Shifa Hospital in 2024 during the military campaign in the Gaza Strip. He was released on October 13, 2025, as part of the deal to free the living hostages from the Gaza Strip. On October 19, 2025, it was reported that he was arrested by Hamas security forces in the Gaza Strip on suspicion of having collaborated with Israel during his time in Israeli prison.
