He was recruited by Hamas in 2004 to infiltrate the organization and operate covertly in order to transfer aid funds intended for the population of the Gaza Strip to strengthen Hamas' military wing. Sentenced to 12 years in prison. He was released from prison on February 1, 2025, after 8 years of imprisonment, as part of the fourth phase of the hostage deal.
