Convicted of responsibility for the murder of 13 Israelis, and sentenced to 13 life sentences In September 2018, it was revealed that he planned to kidnap a soldier, and special forces carried out a series of operations to thwart it. He was released from prison on February 15, 2025, after 22 years of imprisonment, as part of the sixth phase of the hostage deal. According to the terms of the deal, he was permanently expelled from the West Bank.
