He carried out a shooting attack in the Mateh Binyamin area in 2015. Dani Gonen was murdered in the attack and his hiking companion was injured. In June 2015, when two Israeli hikers were leaving the Ein Bobin spring, he signaled them to stop and asked for their help. They stopped their car next to him and after asking them "if there is water in the spring," he shot them at point-blank range and fled. The two young men, about 25 years old, were seriously and slightly injured and were taken to the hospital for treatment. Doctors later pronounced Gonen dead. He was convicted of intentional homicide (a crime equivalent to murder in the West Bank), and of attempted intentional homicide for shooting the other person. In addition, he was convicted of 13 counts of attempted murder for carrying out or attempting to carry out shooting attacks against IDF soldiers, Border Police officers, and civilians, starting in April 2014 until his arrest. A soldier was injured in one of the attacks. He was sentenced to life imprisonment. He was released on October 13, 2025, after 10 years in prison, as part of the deal to free the living hostages from the Gaza Strip. According to the terms of the deal, he was permanently expelled from the West Bank.
