Arrested on August 20, 1990. While a prisoner in Shatta prison, he was convicted of murdering another prisoner suspected of collaborating with Israel. The offenses for which he was imprisoned are: murder; conspiracy to commit a crime; offenses against the law. Released on October 18, 2011 as part of the first phase of the Shalit deal. Rearrested in 2014 and returned to serve his sentence. He was released from prison on February 27, 2025, as part of the seventh phase of the hostage deal. According to the terms of the deal, he was permanently expelled from the West Bank.
