Hisham Abd al-Qader Ibrahim Hijaz is a senior Hamas operative. He was a member of a terrorist network that carried out attacks between 2001 and 2003 and was responsible for the deaths of ten Israelis. He was captured by Israeli security forces and convicted of intentionally causing death and attempted murder. He was sentenced to ten life terms. In 2011, after serving eight years in prison, he was released as part of the Gilad Shalit prisoner exchange and deported abroad. It was reported that he subsequently received Turkish citizenship and has directed terrorist activity from Turkey.
