Hadi Al Ameri

A Shiite Iraqi politician and chairman and secretary of the Badr Organization, a Shiite political organization in Iraq. He also leads the organization’s armed militia, the Badr Brigade. In his youth, he participated in the armed struggle against Saddam Hussein’s regime. During the Iran-Iraq War, he found refuge in Iran until the fall of Saddam Hussein. Afterward, he helped establish the Badr Brigade, the armed wing of the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq, a Shiite political party that fought against the Iraqi regime during the Iran-Iraq War from 1980 to 1988. He was the commander of the Iraqi forces during the operation to liberate Jurf al-Sakhar during the second Iraqi civil war. As commander of Al-Hashd al-Shaabi, he was active in operations against the Islamic State.
