One of the Hamas leaders in prison, he was sentenced to life imprisonment. He confessed and was convicted of driving the suicide bomber who carried out the attack on Line 4 on Allenby Street in Tel Aviv in September 2002. Six people were murdered in the attack and 84 others were injured. He was released from prison on January 25, 2025, after 22 years of imprisonment, as part of the second phase of the hostage deal.
