Together with his family member Hakim Awad, he carried out an attack in the Itamar community on Friday night, March 11, 2011. In the attack, members of the Fogel family, the parents, and three of their children, were stabbed to death. About a week before the attack, Hakim Awad observed the Itamar Settlement in order to study the security arrangements there. Then, they contacted a relative in order to obtain weapons to carry out the attack. They equipped themselves with four knives, two of them 40 cm long, and jumped over the Itamar settlement fence. For about an hour and a half they walked around the settlement to locate targets for attack. Initially, they broke into the house of one of the families in the settlement, but found that the house was empty of residents, and took a shortened M16 assault rifle, bullets and a vest that they found in the house. They went out and waited near the Fogel family's house, where a large number of participants were having a Shabbat night party. After the party ended and the family members went to sleep, they entered the house through the unlocked door. He stabbed Yoav, 10, to death with multiple stab wounds, and together they murdered Elad, 4, by stabbing and strangling him. They then went to the parents' room, where he struggled with Ehud, and overcame him with multiple stab wounds to his neck and back of the head. Also Ruth, the mother, tried to fight back, but she was stabbed and murdered. After they left the house, he returned to the house to look for a weapon, and when he heard the crying of the three-month-old baby Hadas, he also murdered her with a sharp stab to the head. They did not notice two other children, who were sleeping in the house. They then locked the door of the house from the inside, exited through the window, and fled the scene. About a month later, he was captured by security forces along with his Hakim, convicted of murder, and sentenced to life imprisonment.
