Mukhtar Army

A pro-Iranian Shiite militia in Iraq was established in February 2013 to protect the Shiite population and combat extremist Sunni groups such as ISIS and al-Qaeda. In February 2013, the militia claimed responsibility for a rocket attack on Camp Liberty that killed several people. Additionally, an attack was carried out against Saudi Arabia as a warning against interference in Iraq.
