A Palestinian terrorist organization operating mainly in Syria, Lebanon, and the Gaza Strip. The organization was founded in Syria in 1983 after splitting from the Palestinian movement led by Fatah leader Yasser Arafat. It is considered aligned with the Assad regime in Syria and is active in the refugee camps and Palestinian areas in Syria and Lebanon.
After the fall of the Assad regime in 2025, the organization was forced to cease its military activities in Syria, and its leadership became mired in internal power struggles.
In Lebanon, the organization handed over ammunition and headquarters under its control to the Lebanese Army.
The organization’s military wing is called the Al-Asifa Forces, whose members took part in fighting alongside Israel’s enemies during the October 7 attack. The organization’s operatives are active alongside Palestinian forces fighting against Israel in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and Lebanon.
