A terrorist organization operating in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. A member of the joint operations room of the fighting factions under Hamas’s leadership. The organization was founded in April 2001 by Omar Abu Sharia, who left one of Fatah's military units, the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades. Many members of the movement belong to the Abu Sharia family. The movement’s founder was killed in an Israeli attack in Gaza in 2007, after which Asaad Abu Sharia was appointed leader. The movement is affiliated with Hamas and Islamic Jihad but also influenced by Salafi streams. The military wing of the organization is called the Al-Mujahideen Brigades. The organization follows Hamas’s orders and has previously launched rockets toward Israel, and the organization's operatives in Judea and Samaria carry out attacks against Israeli civilians and soldiers.
